If
you only want to buy something new.........
- Treat
buying a bridal gown like you would a car or any other major
purchase. Find one you like, write down the manufacturer
and the style or model number. Search for the gown on the
Internet to find the best price. Then call all of the bridal
shops in your area and ask them for a price quote. Don't
let any of them know what you were already quoted or they
may just outbid the next lowest price by a few dollars.
- Instead
of buying a traditional gown, consider buying a white formal
dress or an elegant white suit you can wear again after
the wedding.
If
you don't mind something gently used.......
-
Try
checking thrift stores, classified ads and consignment
shops. For a list of store, check your local yellow pages
or check out the members
list at the National Association of Resale and Thrift
stores.
-
When
pricing a used gown remember to factor in the cost of
alterations, which may be free (really already included
in the price) of a new gown.
General
Tips.....
- Your
choice of fabric can impact the price of your gown. Real
silk is usually the most expensive. When you shop for your
dress, compare real silk dresses to those of man made fabrics.
If you can't tell the differences, chances are your guests
won't be able to tell the difference either. Man made fabrics
also may be easier to keep clean and less fragile than pure
silk.
